A Full Scale Earth Core Sample Becomes the Museum’s ’Living’ Core
An understanding of the Natural World and the Science governing it is at the core of humanity’s success. New scientific discoveries are unlocking opportunities in improving our health, lifespan, and community resiliency. The science museum needs to be at the forefront of these discoveries and evolve into a community center actively bringing real time knowledge and scientific experiences to our society.
This design abandons the 1980’s black box entertainment science museum model and puts the earth at the center of exploration - literally. The museum wraps around a life size ‘Living Core’ sample of the earth that is both laboratory and transformative experience. This new community center engages in the current science discourse with a focus on health for humans and the biosphere. Orbiting around the ‘Living Core’ is a flexible infrastructure to research, test, and educate.
A Floating Forest
Forests and oceans are at the core to sustaining diversity worldwide, and we as humans will be exploring more closely the depths of these environments for guidance and inspiration. We have placed a Forest and Ocean at the center of Discovery Place Science as an oasis of life that creates a transportive experience to inspire and provoke imaginative discourse.
